Bianca Lono ( Deputy-Mayor )
Bianca Lono is a candidate for Deputy-Mayor in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador.
1. Why did you decide to run for this office?
I’m running for Deputy Mayor because residents deserve transparency, accountability, and a stronger voice at City Hall. I believe in treating public money like our own, tackling waste, and building a city that works for everyone—practical, people-first leadership with no spin.
2. What are the three main issues you’d wish to tackle if elected and why?
Fiscal accountability, housing/short-term rentals, and active and aligned community engagement. We must ensure residents’ tax dollars are spent wisely, protect housing availability and affordability, and strengthen how services are delivered through real input and collaboration.
3. How do you intend to work with your colleagues at City Council to tackle these issues?
Collaboration and open communication are key. I’ll build consensus by listening, sharing facts, and focusing on solutions over politics. Council works best when we break down silos, respect diverse views, and keep residents at the heart of every decision. United and effective communication with ALL stakeholders (especially the Provincial government) is also high on my list.
4. Where do you see St. John’s in four years?
A more accountable, transparent, and connected city—with stronger neighborhoods, fairer taxation, revitalized local business, and real progress on housing. A city where residents feel heard, and where leadership earns trust through action, not just words.
