Art Puddister ( At-Large )
Art Puddister is a candidate for Councillor-at-Large in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador.
Why did you decide to run for this office?
I decided to run for council as I have served on council before. I have the experience to serve the people of St. John’s. I know how city hall works .
What are the three main issues you’d wish to tackle if elected and why?
The three main issues for me are
1. Taxes , we must freeze the mill rates for residential and commercial properties. We must run the city more efficiently on a 449,000,000 budget .
2. Accessibility. We must do more to have accessible buildings, crosswalks and sidewalks. That means clearing sidewalks in the winter . We must commit the resources to clear all sidewalks as soon as possible.
3. Affordable housing., We must spend more money and commit more resources to building affordable houses. We must work with the province and the federal government to make sure everyone has a safe and affordable place to live .
How do you intend to work with your colleagues at City Council to tackle these issues?
I intend to work in a co-operative manner with fellow councillors if elected . Council must set the policies for the City and staff must follow the directives passed by Council .
Where do you see St. John’s in four years?
In four years I believe the city will be more accessible. More social housing will be built and more snow clearing, especially sidewalks. While holding the line on taxes. We must be more efficient with the taxpayers' money .
