Rigel Penman ( Deputy-Mayor )

Rigel Penman is a candidate for Deputy-Mayor in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador.Deputy-Mayor.

Why did you decide to run for this office?

I have always been interested in politics and when this election came around some good friends wanted to support me. As I spoke to more people, I found a lot of support for my ideas and decided to bring them forward by running for office.

What are the three main issues you’d wish to tackle if elected and why?

My 3 priorities would be: housing, economic vitality, and public safety. I believe measures like rezoning areas within the city, increasing accessibility, and changing our balance of treatment options and emergency services will help all of these.

How do you intend to work with your colleagues at City Council to tackle these issues?

By bringing forward evidence based policy proposals that focus on making the city healthy. I’m always open to feedback from my colleagues, and believe our shared desire to do what’s best for the city will create policies that serve our constituents.

Where do you see St. John’s in four years?

I believe St. John’s has the potential to be a vital hub of both cultural and economic activity. It can be a place where citizens can own a home, start a business, raise a family, and have their own chance to contribute to helping St. John’s grow.
