John Barbour is a candidate for Councillor-at-Large in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador.

Why did you decide to run for this office?

I have always been involved in my community and I wanted to present a candidate for positive, sustainable and achievable change. I was considering running in ward 2 but with so much turnover in at-large I thought I would be a better fit.

What are the three main issues you’d wish to tackle if elected and why?

Housing.

How do you intend to work with your colleagues at City Council to tackle these issues?

I'll explore the creation of incentives to encourage the redevelopment of vacant buildings downtown and revitalize the downtown area. I will support motions that remove barriers in adding density for existing properties that meet the appropriate criteria.

I will support motions that align with the Envision St. John's Municipal Plan, Development Regulations and the City's Strategic Directions.

Where do you see St. John’s in four years?

I see a city with more available units. I see a more walkable city. I see a happier city.
